BEST DISASTER MOVIE EVER!

ill admit some parts are unrealistic such as the helicopter shooting the plane.
But thats what makes a movie like this so action filled and exiting.
but in response to the previous comment, the highest alt the plane ever reached was 27,500 feet and the planes speed was around 180-200MPH not 400MPH. all in all this is a fantastic movie thats not getting the attention it needs. The soundtrack is great, and the plot is great. PLEASE HELP SPREAD WORD ABOUT THIS MOVIE.

Having just seen the second half of this on daytime TV (hidden away on one of our digital channels in the UK thankfully), I can honestly say that was one awful, cheesy movie that did no credit to the actors involved. What a ridiculous plot with predictable elements and the all too common (and usually US movie trait) of a soppy ending. As for the captain and first officer having a conversation about their future together in the middle of a dire emergency and leaving the engineer in charge of the plane...

All I can add is that I'm glad I didn't see the first half too!

Possibly one of the worst films (there are many contenders), I have had the misfortune to sit through. The only reason I carried on watching was to see how preposterous the plot was going to get. I wasn't disappointed!

I think I took issue because the elevators were jammed in the "up" position, and the predicted result of losing the tail was a runaway pitch up moment. If the plane pitches up by default, then up elevator would make it pitch up even more. If light planes are an indication, powering down may slow the plane initially, but it will also lower the nose so it recovers the original trim speed. But-pumping water into the plane's nose to "make it pitch down...Poleeeze" Power/thrust governs altitude, elevator trim governs airspeed.

Frankly, I was bothered by the lack of Mucho Grande references.

I think it was a great movie too. Very entertaining. I mean, you cant take most movies seriously, but people are content on accepting so many unrealistic psychological thrillers as great works of art, but these type of no brainer movies get criticized.

The point is that it was good fun viewing, a welcome break from watching heavy emotional dramas, and yet, not as dumb as so many action movies.

Yes, I enjoyed this movie very much for the human drama/stories and the action was great too. I also enjoyed the follow up to this called Final Run. I wish Urich had done more movies with this character as he was very interesting.
I do understand criticisms from people who feel the technical things should have been done right and that is true, but I'm not going to let that bother me when the human story and characters are interesting and I can feel the characters. That is why I also like the 2009 mini-series, Impact which was criticized for its scientific inaccuracies, but the human stories were good and heartwarming in some parts.
