Chances for Holland
Who Am I? was one of the better new martial arts films from Jackie. Not only did it contain some of the greatest action, it was also set in my country: Netherlands. It was not that fact that made it a good movie in my eyes, but there was more.
In this movie, Jackie gave a lot of Dutch people a chance as an actor or stuntperformer. The most popular one of course was Ron Smoorenburg. However critisized for being doubled, he did create a great fight with/against Jackie and his carreer ahd a huge boost after this one and he appeared with Jackie again and some more Asian action stars.
Other people where stuntperformers like Philip v.d. Eijk, who is a member of Team Trickz.nl. A Dutch group of martial atrists and performers who prove that we too are growing and improving.
Unfortunately, the biggest Dutch production: Fighting Fish wasn't well received. As a movie it wasn't good, but again some Dutch martial artists got the chance to show their skills: Ron Smooernburg, Chewing Lam, Kim Ho Kim, and THAT was very good.
It might take some time, but maybe later, we'll be able to make movies that make people awe even in the US. Check the links below for a little awe.
