Why this movie is cool.

The reason why I think this movie is really good is because of the whole apathetic atmosphere the movie has going for it. As a former dope smoker I could totally relate to this movie. Just the whole emotionless, non-caring, non-attentive attitude of the characters effectively highlights what it's like to be a full on pot head and hang around with other pot smokers. Just the whole "I don't give a *beep* thing the film has for it. The guys house burns down and he doesn't really care. That's like a metaphor for the whole pot experience.

Those that have never toked up or hung around some serious pot smokers won't be able to relate to this film at all.

My only problem with this movie was the sexual assault scene. I thought it was really unnecessary. It was trying to show how messed up the Serena character was. But this was easily achieved before the scene.

Also some of the music really sucked. The only good stuff was Jack Black's performance.

This movie shows how drugs can make you more open minded than drink. The guy was living with two gays and he didn't even care and they are his best friends. This would never be the case with some drunkard southerner.

i very much agree with what you said regarding the pot/alchohal comparison.

Wow I think you missed the point completely. First of all drugs don't make people open minded (don't even get me started on the fact that pot is barely a drug) life events influental people are what effects whether people are open minded. I know tons of people that smoke pot and are racist, anti gay or shovenist. On the same note I know many drunkards that are gay. Your comment, "The guys house burns down and he doesn't really care. That's like a metaphor for the whole pot experience." I don't even know were to begin with that comment. I think it is retarded when people use the word metaphore in a simaly (and I suck at English). Second of all HE DID CARE about his house burning down. He told Serena that he didn't because he loved her and he is a push over.

The sexual assult scene did not show anything it simply let the veiwer rest assured that Serena does not get away with doing the things she does, it shows that there are ramifications for your actions and when you use people you will get used.

So in conclusion, you are an idiot that smoked pot a few times and now blame it for most of your failures (probably still drink though). You are also right winged and born again christian and have no clue about any of the culture that this movie portrays.

So many spelling mistakes in this response to the above poster: "shovenist", "metaphore", "simaly", "assult", "veiwer", not to mention several incomplete sentences . But could you at least explain this comment: "life events influential people are what effects (should probably be affects) whether people are open minded."?

If you want to be taken seriously at least try and make your rant coherent to those who read these pseudo-dialectics.

What irritates me more than people that don't understand English and admit it (such as the person you are ranting at) are those that can seemingly only understand perfect English and cannot comprehend anything not laid out in perfect spelling/grammar who then throw out a few intellectual words such as "pseudo-dialectics" just to look clever.

The poster clearly meant: "Life events influence a person's open-mindedness far more than drugs".

In fact, I'd go further: These life events are what influence a person's susceptability to being willing to try drugs for the first time. Therefore those open-minded people are those that usually take drugs, but neither is the cause or the effect of this. The other things they have experienced are.

Wow. I can't believe you honestly said that in a message board on imdb.com. I mean, you do know what "ignorant" means, right? It means that you're not educated in something. As in, you are ignorant for saying that someone who smokes pot won't care that he lives with two gays, but someone who is an alcoholic (who HAS to be from the south for some reason) would not be okay with it. First of all, I know quite a few homophobic pot smokers, as well as some alcoholics (who may or may not be from the south) who drink a lot who have great friends that are homosexual. Think before you speak. You sound like an idiot here.

Too funny. I think this is a pretty good movie, I just hate how he ends up back with her.

I agree with what you have said completely. Good for you, you made your point without any assumptions about this person. He set himself up for this comment.
Perhaps Theyre or whatever his name is can learn from you. Also, Barfly has the right idea to laugh at this whole thing! What an absurd thing to do with your spare time, argue on forums! I am only doing this because I have a 102 fever and can't leave my room! Still not a good enough excuse!

Many people have taken drugs and it has "awakened" them. Or just made them see the world differently, that is true. Mainly because how much the drugs mess with your brain. This is a biological effect and not something magical. And yes I have taken acid and it messed with my head, but I still don't regret it.

Also, pot isn't a drug

I totally agree with you jmatchus. I'm a drunkard and I have no problem with gay people at all LOL!!

Jack Black. It's what made me love him.

I also thought Brittany Murphy's character was funny.

I haven't read the book, but for now it feels like the rape scene was just so we wouldn't care that she burnt his house down/let his house burn down and he still wants to be with her.
