Great film but totally unrealistic
this would never ever happen in real life
shareAll romantic comedies (rom-coms) are unrealistic. They are "feel-good" movies which are aimed to make the viewer happy and possibly instil some hope that maybe such nice things do happen in the world and love is not dead.
If you want realism, then you should watch the news, but these days even that isn't 100% true! LOL!
Mr McGee, don't make me angry. You wouldn't like me when I'm angry!
There's actually a lot of celebs who wound up happily married to "common people".
Heck, Julia Roberts is one of them. She married a random cameraman. Matt Damon married a bartender. Google "Celebrities married to commoners".
Now their stories might not have been as surreal as the plot of this movie, but you can't say something like this can't happen.
No Cake? The Cake is a Lie.

yes, but "common" is in the eye of the beerholder
in this case there is injected the further issue of CULTURE and as Julia is american with no culture except the Big Mac, the boot is really on the other foot.
this is shown up front where Julia is SEARCHING for culture so goes into the sacred mojo of London, totally STEEPED in culture, but she needs to ease her way in so selects the Coffee Table account of Turkey.
Hugh explains that there is a better book that exchanges "pretty pictures" for culture, but she decides to "maintain her celeb" by buying the book.
but it HAS got her thinking and so we get to the kiss which is to say "I am really reaching out NOT to be a lousy american celeb but please bear with me as it is not easy to simply ditch a lifetime of American Pie.
the park seat inscription gets to her and in the end she is ON that seat.

Well, it's the kind of movie where the hero and heroine meet up because he coincidentally dropped orange juice on her, so...anything's a step up from that.
.
Anna's reaction to the coffe or orange spill is ridiculous and contradictory. Never in a million years she would have not freaked out and call her car immediately - nor she would have gone to a stranger's house. I know the guy at the bookshop but I would think it twice before going to his house.

I'm not bad, I was drawn that way
Yeah, good point, because a man and woman could never be attracted to each other and fall in love.
shareHow do you know?
shareIt is unrealistic, but then most romantic comedies are.
shareMonkey Dust did an hilarious sketch about it that points out exactly this point: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hKSGdByaUIA
"I have so many objections I don't know where to start"
Hugh's character was that handsome and nice and said such things as "I won't tell anyone, oh I might tell myself sometimes", I think it might happen in real life .
