I know that the reason for Max tripping Page to sue the hotel and putting water on the floor to make it look like she slipped.

I'm assuming you mean why did she trip her instead of giving her the chance to fall on her own, and the answer is that Max thought that Paige fell in a lousy way when she knew it was coming.
