This movie could've been so much better

This movie is pretty terrible, there is no other way to say it, but what bothers me is it had so much potential. The basic plot is a bit stale and you can predict that Paige (Jennifer Love-Hewitt) is going to fall in love with Jack (Jason Lee) from the get-go and it's pretty obvious she's going to be caught and have to choose between coming clean about all of her lies or stick to what she knows, cue the title. Still, the cast is great! And that's why I was so disappointed. Zach Galifanakis and Sarah Silverman play Jack's best friends and they add nothing to the movie. Hollywood loves Galifanakis, he's great for a cheap laugh and still we get NOTHING from him.

Another thing that bothered me was how easily Paige won over Jack and his friends. Okay, JHL is essentially flawless in terms of appearance so yeah, I'll give Jason Lee's character that but any decent guy wouldn't just propose to a girl that was so emotionally distant and indecisive. Not only that but Ray Liotta and Sigourney Weaver have to force Paige to accept Jack's proposal and he thinks nothing of it.

Also, I love Jason Lee, I think he's hilarious. He's the reason I sat through this movie and he had maybe one two good lines, however they barely managed to crack a viewer's smile. In addition, his character is so drastically whipped it's an insult to both men and women.

The ending is just as unbearable as the rest of the movie and reading other comments on this board it's clear that it went right over some viewer's heads.

I desperately wish there was a way to remake this movie with the same cast but oh well, I'll move on.

As someone who first saw, and became an immediate fan of Jason Lee in Chasing Amy, this performance was borderline depressing. No I wouldn't expect him to be Banky all over again but my god. His role is without a doubt the movie's weakest link.

Back off! ... Way off!

So what if it's "Predictable" that JLH falls for Jack. Does every movie have to have a surprise-ending?

It's a pretty common plot that boy/girl fight at beginning, one of them despises the other, and then they end up together.

Does being a "movie critic" mean you have to CRITICIZE everything ??

And I LOVED the ending! It made up for some of the stupidity (like JLH fighting with her mom while driving, c'mon!)
