Version with director's commentary?
OK, I understand (from my searching) that there's (at least?) *3* DVD versions of this movie out there.
1) The PAL/Region 2 German release, which has no extras.
2) The NTSC/Region 0 Russian bootleg release, which again has no extras (warning: as with any bootleg, quality differs, depending on the source. The Russian bootleg I got from Ebay is the movie Thursday, looking and sounding nice, with Russian menus and no extras. The Russian bootleg my friend ordered from a distributor for his store is TERRIBLE. The picture looks like crap, and the sound is REALLY bad - they actually didn't bother taking out the Russian dubbed dialouge when they [I guess] put the English soundtrack "back in", they just turned down the volume of the Russkie dialouge and re-recorded the English dialouge over it. So when you're watching it in English, you can hear the Russian voices "under" the English dialouge!)
and
3) The original, Polygram DVD release; NTSC/Region 1; sells for insane amounts of money because the DVD was being put out JUST as Polygram was going out of buisness, so only about 1000 copies of the DVD were ever made!
- Now, I heard this "original" version has a director's commentary, as well as having (possibly) other extras. Under the Berne Convention, any movie no longer available on that medium (ie - the Polygram DVD going out of print) can legally be copied, sold, traded, whatever. How do you think companies/websites like xploitedcinema and the (quite legitimate) DVD distributor that stocks my friend's video store can openly sell Russian bootlegs of this film?
- Anyway, if somebody could a)confirm for me that the original release does have a Dir. Commentary (and/or other extras) OR (preferably) could b)sell/trade with me a copy of the original Polygram Unrated DVD, I would make it worth their while. Note: I can accept the movie w/ extras from ANY region, and PAL or NTSC are NOT an issue. Just hit me up at [email protected].
Thank you for your time.
