This movie is definitely up there with some of the Great Basketball Movies of all time!

American history x had edward furlong and very little basketball involved

Fast Break 1979 with Gabe Kaplan & Bernard King. Decent basketball flick.

I'm sorry but I don't think it's a movie about basketball at all.
And I don't get the 6.8 either.
It is Spike Lee's masterpiece (with The 25th Hour) and I can't say why the low rating. I'm not even fond of basketball so I'm really lost on this :/

Gonna have to disagree. Apart from Denzel Washington the acting in the movie was terrible. Rosario Dawson wasn't bad but she didn't really have a significant role. Good story but I thought it was poorly told overall.

The acting in this movie was pretty good except for Ray Allen. He was awkward with the way he delivered his lines, but it actually kind of work because these overgrown basketball phenoms are sometimes kinda awkward anyway.

I just saw this movie today for the first time. I remember when it came out in 1998 I never watched it. Looking at in 2013 I will say it is a great movie I never knew Ray Allen could act he was so fine in this movie and I love the message the movie portrayed especially about education. I would say this movie is up there with Love & Basketball another of my favorite basketball movie.
