$150 bucks?

So this guy, a convicted murderer is given a week of freedom, free lodging and even cash to live on. What does he do? He spends $150 on a pair of sneakers(resulting in him eating grilled cheese sandwhich's made with an iron) and then has the balls to ask for more money so he can get drunk and get a hooker.

Wow. Between this and Do the Right Thing, Spike Lee really can portray negative black stereotypes.

Negative, but not untrue.

I know people who don't have their own apartments, no cars, can't pay their mobile phone bills, and work low-wage part time jobs just to be able to spend $300 a month to add to their sneaker collections...

The idea of a savings account or even living below (or within) their means never crosses their mind.

LOL....same here XTC. I have some cousins that are like that have the nice clothes and shoes but when it comes to the important stuff bills, car, and etc they don't have money for that. I love when they want to ask you for money I tell them "I don't have it" I hate to do that to family but hey I can't go broke for them.

Jake only had a week of freedom though so it makes sense that he would blow money on booze and women. The sneakers were for basketball so he needed those.

There were a lot of other characters that portrayed the stereotypes as well so to single out Jake is odd since he was the only one that had the peculiar circumstance of getting a weeks vacation from prison.

Sound like the 'homeless' people around here. Dirty old track suits, unwashed and unshaven, but always with a shiny pair of the newest Air Jordans to get around in.

Negative reinforcement, or something like that.
