This film is such a classic and one of Denzel's finest work. I am not a big basketball fan at all and it's one of my top 100 or so. It deserves to be in the high. 7s if not an 8 but a 6.3 !!! Somebody please tell me I'm crazy on this one? It's a 10 in my book and I can't see where it's a 6?
This is such a great film. It's shot so well. It's gritty, emotional, and a very well acted film. I feel like this should be a 7.7. I'll never forget when I saw this in theaters as a young teen. This movie for me is nostalgic.
Agreed. Spike completely misused Jovovich, not that she's such a great actress anyway, but he could have given her something to work with at least. Her scenes and character didn't bring anything to the movie in my view.
People who don't like their beliefs being laughed at shouldn't have such funny beliefsī²

I don't think it's pointless. Denzel's character wanted to do something nice for someone since he probably is still upset at what he did to his wife. Plus it makes his character more sympathetic and shows that he's not just there to ask his son to help release him from jail.
I love it, I gave it a 9/10. This, Clockers, 25th Hour and Mo Betta Blues are all great in my mind(As well as overlooked)... It's 6.9 right now. I'm shocked it's not over 7 atleast. Its a powerful film, filled with powerful performances. Denzel absolutely SHINES. The cinematography is beautiful... It has all the key elements. Except alot of people hate Spike Lee. Its that simple. Spike has this ability, I've mentioned on other boards, where he makes every film in its own world. Its NYC but we see one shot of the City. You feel boxed in, just like Clockers. You see what the characters see and what makes them who they are.
I was really good in Baseball. One of the best pitchers in my City and surrounding towns. I had Prep Schools sending me letters daily, talking to my parents, coaches etc... BUT, I ended up HATING the sport because of getting pushed too hard. It wasn't my father though, it was coaches who didn't handle the Youth well. I could only imagine what it would be like for a Kid in Jesus shoes. That stuff gets intense and you lose interest. It becomes more than just a game and at 12 Years old, it shouldn't be that way
