Michael Caine's accent??
Was anyone else driven crazy by that weird accent? I'm from New England, so maybe that's why I'm especially sensitive. It was awful imo.

shareAyup. It's a non-specific hodgepodge of US accents and it mars an otherwise fine performance. For starters he pronounces "ars" instead of "ahs."
But possibly the Larch character was not a native New Englander? I read the book years ago and remember that Larch had a significant back story. Unfortunately, I can't remember the details.
I too speak English with a bizarre compound accent, it's not such a big deal, people get used to it and ask me where I'm from all the time.
shareIt is mentioned that he is the son of immigrants. Grow up around foreign accents and it rubs off on you...I don't know, maybe that's a stretch. But the accent did bother me.
