The Title
I have not yet read the book nor seen the film. Without any spoilers, can someone please fill me in (very generally) on the significance of the title? Thanks.
shareThe main character eventually lives in a communal farm house where they make apple cider. The orchard owner, apparently, posted a typed page of rules for everyone living there.
However, everyone living in the house when the main character arrives is illiterate, so nobody knows what the rules actually are, merely that they exist.
The fact they're used as the title underscores the deeper metaphors you're meant to see in everything the story contains.
