A lot of Dickens in this movie - obviously, David Copperfield, but the first "bedtime story" Dr. Larch reads, about the dog bashing out its brains, is from Oliver Twist! Anyone else notice this?

Just got the novel yesterday and I'm looking forward to reading it.

Yeah, Dickens is all over Irving's novels. It's actually pretty tough to find an interview where Irving doesn't mention that Dickens is his greatest influence.

In the 40's most people did read Dickens - not my favorite author.
