lost out "american beauty" at the oscars and that is #37? (i can deal with loosing out to that movie) but just find hard to belive this movie not in top 250?? loved this movie!! michael caine was great and won an oscar! just find it incredible there are 250 better movies??
shareThere's probably been tens of thousands of movies made in the history of motion pictures. I would have to expect that at least 250 of them would be considered by most to be better than Cider House Rules.

well those tens of thousands of better movies sure arnt on this list!!? thats more of the issue?? can name over 50 movie`s that should not be on this list?? you probly could too? but if those movies arnt on list? this movie sure as hell better then at least 50 movies on this list!

i know that, but when you have NO COMEDYS??? on list at all? list a little off! and i truly respect this list (mostly?) more then old farts on the acadamey board who always pick the worse movies up for oscars? few good? been some brutal nominated movies?? and winners also! you say me or your opinon shouldnt matter? well this is the peoples opinions on movies, just thought list would be a little better cause it is all of us rating movies! not the academey, were its alot of politics! and "space oddesy 2001"??? #86 i belive?? that wasnt even one of the top 5 movies nomintated in 68 for an oscar?? but yet is that high on this list when it wasnt even in top 5 movies of its own year??? and the 5 movies nomintaed that year arnt even on list?? so shows how bad academy is? or how bad this list is? shawshank redemption is my favorite movie of all time! so i do respect this list and "one flew over cuckoos nest" and "forrest gump" are probly in my top 5? so list is good! but just blown away by some of these movies on list? and i know this is world wide? so alot of foriegn films also? but that "space oddesey 2001" film #86?????? i went and rented just becasue of ranking! and great special effects for 1968? but man that was brutal!! (flet like i was on acid?) still confused!? and wrote about it and everyone pretty much agreed it was kinda of love or hate movie? but #86 best? and thats just an example of some of movies i cant belive are on there? no comedys or horror flicks?? should be few!? guess i expect a little more from the fans? the academy i could see? but being the fans list? thought be better movies on there i guess
shareHere is an honest piece of advice. Don't worry about what movies people like better than you do. You know what you like and that's all that should matter to you. I don't like onions on my hamburgers but I understand that many other people do. I don't get mad about it.

After eating some liquid one night at a club SWIM was working at, SWIM went home and watched 2001 while tripping balls. It was a very enlightening experience and truly made them understand the meaning of life. Pretty crazy...

shareohh ya i loved "fight club"!! also!! but dont mean 2 movies from same year cant be in the top 250? 1 year had 3 of the top 50? 1994 had forrest gump,pulp fiction and the shawshank redemption! so ya dont have to be the best movie of that year? but just think its alot better then alot of the movies on list? like i said "2001: a space odyssey"? is #90? and wasnt even 1 of the 5 movies nomintad for an oscar in 1968? find that strange? so ya some years you could have 5? movies that belong in top 250? if all good? but this movie wasnt even nomintated in its own year? anddn #90? alota older guys i work with told me to watch? and still confused? but that`s just 1 of many i thought "the cider house rules" was better then? but ya i liked "fight club" better also! and its #19!? so dont see the argument there? never said better then that movie? just thought shoud be in top 250 at least?

shareEveryone has their own taste in movies, so what the Oscars and the IMDB 250 say are still just the opinions of groups of very different people. I think CHR is a great picture, and that's all that matters to me. I often find both the Oscars and the IMDB 250 to be a joke, but others may not. What should count to us is what we think about a movie, not what others think.

Saybow you are hilarious man. Where are you from? I don't think there was 1 sentence that you didn't end with either a question mark or an exclamation point?! When I read the post when you rant about the academy awards I keep thinking of family guy and Stewie talking with an upward infliction at the end of each sentence.
But I can relate to you, this movie is extremely well made and I think there are a lot of movies on the top 250 that could be replaced with CHR. But then again that's just 1 man's opinion.
