Beautifully acted, a magnificent film!

I was a little nervous going into this film having read the book. Most of the time the film butchers the book. I am really glad that John Irving did his own adaptation because I don't see how anyone else could have done so successfully. While much of the book was cut out, I thought that Irving did an exellent job bringing this to the screen. Michael Caine gave one of the best performances of his career, and I thought that Delroy Lindo was just fantastic. But with a supporting cast from three of my favorite actresses Jane Alexander, Kathy Baker, and Kate Nelligan I don't think there was anyway I was not going to enjoy this. I have not enjoyed a film like this in a while!

Tobey McGurire was absolutly amazing. I was so moved during every scene he was in or was spoken about....just brilliant.

Yes it was certainly moving. I constantly found myself moving to another room to find somethign worthwhile to do with my time.

Oh yes, Delroy Lindo fascinated me.

But I was more than just dissapointed about Maguire's acting,
why didn't they tell him that he is ALLOWED to
move his face muscles?

Life's a movie with a bad screenplay.

I thought the "letter-writing" sequence was magnificent and deeply moving.

It was good. On a number of levels. I can see where it's got a polarizing factor going but if you can get by that it's well done so you will see some aspects of contemporary film that's not out there often.
