I wanted to hate this charecter ! He was an incestuaous rapist .He was horrible bastard. he was sick , right?

No , that is why I loved this movie . He was weak and what he did was wrong but i love that this happend from a charecter that was interesting and real and likable. The fact that monsterous things can come from good people or nice people in every other way is what made this film for me .I wish that i could say to my family that the bad guys will always look like the bad guys. The fact is that Mr Rose is one of my favorite charecters when the movie first introduced him and at the end , despite everything , I still liked him . I hated the act but not the man . That's real for me .

The entire movie was filled with characters who were flawed heroes, starting with Dr. Larch. This formed a major theme of the movie - that life is complex, and filled with people who don't fit into pigeonholes. Thus they must make decisions based on an ethic that goes beyond "rules" and attempts address life's difficulties in a compassionate way.

Oh please spare me the noble, two dimension crap! I hate the character, and even more i hate that none of the MEN who knows the story doesn't get up and beat the *beep* out of Mr. Rose! I would instantly called the authority and send his ass to rot in jail.

I agree, Mike13-03. There is nothing redeeming whatsoever about a character that rapes and subsequently impregnates his own daughter.

It's perfectly valid to like a character who does something atrocious before they commit the atrocity.

Afterwards... it's a little more complicated.

I didn't really like the whole incestuous subplot and found it unnecessary as it takes away screen time from the main character and his journey.

I had a similar reaction to Mr. Rose as the OP did, but was not as forgiving of him. What he did was horrible but at least he knew it. He stabs himself to death as penance, but still, he effectively ruined his daughter's life. I believe he couldn't help what he did...maybe, but he's still a tragic character. As you pointed out:

I think that the incestuous subplot is part of Homer's journey.

And as other said, all the characters were flawed in some way. Many of them are the victims of irrational thinking and character flaws, such as Candy's need to have ANY man in her life so she won't be alone, Wally's need to volunteer for a dangerous mission, Homer's naive view of the world and his need to go out and experience everything, Dr Larch's love but over-protection of Homer; they all suffer from these weaknesses.

Mr. Rose is simply more extreme in his dysfunctional thinking and he pays with his life and the loss of his daughter's love.

Don't get me wrong...
It might be unbelievable,
But let's not say so long.

No , that is why I loved this movie . He was weak and what he did was wrong but i love that this happend from a charecter that was interesting and real and likable. Today I re-watched the film and found myself thinking some of the same things.
