Why do people think this was anything but a political movie?

Like the awful-book-I-was-forced-to-read-in-college that spawned this thing this was a political movie. It was about abortion. That's all it was about. Everything else was filler meant to make it look like it was about something else (the always handy 'ephemeral journey'.) Aside from some great cinematography, the whole thing was condescending, nauseating, cowardly, & insulting. But because it was politically fashionable, it won awards.

The abortion theme makes it a 'social issue' movie, not a 'political' movie per se. And there is more to it than the that subplot - the 'coming of age' theme, the love story, the theme of 'the apprentice becoming the master'. To see an example of a movie that is more about the 'a-word', I refer you to "Obvious Child". This was actually co-conceived (if you will pardon that choice of words) by Planned Parenthood, as a kind of cinematic portrayal of a young woman opting to end her unplanned pregnancy.
