I have been reading posts on here. A lot of people who disliked this movie had some pretty stupid reasons. Violence is fine to me. Vulgarity, bad language, hookers, drugs... are all good things.

Still, I disliked this movie. I do not really know why, though.

It was filmed well enough, I guess.
The acting was ok (I thought Cameron Diaz did a pretty not good job acting in this.)
The storyline was ok, I guess... but nothing special.
It really felt like nothing special. I felt nothing about anything in this movie. Ok, well, I did think "the poor dog lost his leg." It seemed like he was the best actor in the movie, since I cared what happened to him.

I don't know, I mean... I like good movies, typically. Sometimes I like bad movies, but I admit they are bad movies (I just got Buba Hotep at the grocery store for $3... hooray!) And sometimes I dislike movies for nothing to do with the film. I tend to dislike Tarantino movies, but I admit they are well done (typically.)

I understand subtext, satire and other devices deployed in an interested and deep film. I also understand the brilliance of idiocy...

I just felt nothing about this film. I could have not watched it and felt the same as I do now, that I have watched it.

You were supposed to dislike it.

If you can't figure out why then you failed to comprehend the film and why/how it was brilliant enough to cause that failure of comprehension.

I know why I disliked it, I said as much. I found nothing about it that appealed to me. I found nothing about it at all. It did not say anything, but it failed to say nothing. It was formulaic but uninspired. It was not poorly done, but not brilliantly done.

I did not dislike it because of any other reason and I fail to see the brilliance in that fact. I fail to see what I did not comprehend (although, that statement is problematic in itself.) I got the point of the story. And I did disagree with the subtext (which was far from subtle) but I need not agree with a movie to enjoy it. I did not dislike the violence, the drug use, the abuse of celebrity in casting, the plot holes, the cinematography, the acting, the plot - none of these things caused my dislike. This does not mean I can't "figure out why" I disliked it.... as I said repeatedly, I disliked it because it was "meh."

Yet I still liked it. Does that make me bad? No pun intended, haha.

On a serious note, yeah, it's supposed to be deplorable and socially unacceptable. Dark comedy hello?

Boycott movies that involve real animal violence! (and their directors too)

I exactly know what you mean. I also felt nothing about this film.

No single character was likable. No problem, but:
No single character was to care for. You can also care for a dislikable character, but I cared for nobody in this film (except the dog). No problem, but:
The story was not really exciting. You can have a film with no interesting characters at all, as long as it tells a good story. The story kind of was to straight for a dark comedy. Kind of planned by that smart logical leader of the five guys. Not really interesting.

So what about a film without interesting characters and without good story? OK, the acting was all right, and the ending was - kind of usual, as everybody got what they deserved. Hmm. Definitely not a film to remember.

I also did not enjoy the movie but for a whole different reason....
I thought the movie was alright and everything, the story it self is an interesting one and entertaining, my one issue with the movie is all the damn yelling. It was the single most annoying thing, the movie is 80% yelling... and by the end of the film i was just totally turned off. I understand they were stressed they just killed some one and they should yell..... just not for 80% of the movie

P.S. I may be exaggerating a little on the 80$ but there was A LOT of yelling.... just anoying

I didn't like it either.

When black humor works, it's brilliant.
When it doesn't it's annoying and lame like this.

Black humor is a finesse game and the filmmaker doesn't have it.

I totally agree with your sentiments. Generally I like films like this, dark comedies are usually my bag, but something was amiss with this one.

It had a cast that (individually) I have thought to be funny in previous films. It had a few truly clever moments, but there was so much yelling and melodrama that it detracted from me enjoying most of that cleverness.

Slater was fun to watch and the ending had the makings of a classic... and yet it failed to commit to its own absurdity. Also, the characters were all pretty much two dimensional.
