Blu-Ray?
This movie would be awesome in Blu-ray. Anyone here any rumors of a release?
shareNo bro, but I do agree with you that would be awesome.
"I said forget about it cuz."
- Paul Walker in 2Fast 2Furious
I haven't heard any rumors, but I doubt it will be released anytime soon. The DVD is hard enough to find, but you never know, maybe it will be released in a double pack with another movie.
shareI'd love to own this on Blu-ray, hopefully it'll eventually see a release.
shareI hope Warners will look at this message board and see this. Maybe the four people who want the blu-ray will get it. I hope I will.
shareYah, it would be great if there was a blu Ray for this! I hope all 5 people and I will get Small Soldiers specially from Warners!
I have El Sonoma del Torra de Fiero Syndrome. Be happy you don't. Trust me.
Just FYI but it is now available to stream in HD on Netflix.
"Candy CANES?? Are you mocking me?" - Dr. Gregory House
It would be great to get a commentary with Joe Dante. I've really had fun listening to the ones he did for Innerspace, Gremlins, and The Howling. Small Soldiers is tons of fun. Deserves more respect.
shareI hope it comes to Blu-ray soon. They could easily port over all the stuff from the DVD and add new features. A Joe Dante commentary, new retrospective documentary and individual featurettes on the Commandos and Gorgonites would all be awesome.
shareI'd enjoy a blu-ray release as well. This is one of the few movies I've never gotten tired of watching, and I've watched it at least once every couple of years since it's theatrical release.
A recreation of my nightmares

I watch it a fair amount of times each year too, at least maybe 3 or 4. It still holds up nicely 15 years later and remains a nice piece of 90s nostalgia.
shareThe film will be released on Blu-ray in Germany on March 20, 2014. Still no word about a US release.
shareHopefully this year we'll finally get an announcement of a Region 1 release.

Yay
Hey son! Over here! I'm over here. At the banyan trees.
Any word of it hitting Region 1?
shareHey, man. Nope.
You could get a region free Blu-ray player for cheap. Or do you have a Blu-ray drive in your PC? The program AnyDVD HD allows you to bypass any region locks.
Hey son! Over here! I'm over here. At the banyan trees.
Think I'll wait for an R1 release. I want to get a region-free BD player sometime but price-wise I think they're a little out of my league for now.
shareJust get a cheap ass one. The one I have, the remote barely works, the on/off and open/eject buttons sometimes take ages to register, it has a fugly interface and sucks at playing files off a usb/hard drive, but one you manage to get the Blu-ray in there it plays perfectly lol.
It's worth getting one so you don't have to worry about any of the region locks again.

I hope this gets an America BD release, that would be so awesome! Does anyone know if there will be any extra features on the Blu-Ray?
Don't you know history repeats itself? Hmm Sid?- Scream 2
Hopefully there will be, the DVD has a decent amount on it. Wouldn't be hard for Dreamworks to port it all over to a Blu-ray release. There's a making-of along with deleted scenes, bloopers and the trailer, all should be easy enough to add on. It'd be great too if maybe it could be a Special Edition.
shareYeah I have the DVD. I wonder if a director's cut is ever possible one day? Either way, a blu-ray of what the movie is to be released in America is the one thing I, and I'm sure a lot of other people are waiting for.

Doesn't really seem like much was cut and the deleted scenes were on the DVD. It'd be nice if a Special Edition would be produced for it when it hits Blu-ray, in addition to all the old special features from the DVD, a commentary by Joe Dante, a retrospective documentary and featurettes on the Commandos, Gorgonites and Commando vehicles/weapons would all be awesome.
shareSo it's out now.
Comparison between Universal's 2003 PAL DVD and the new Blu-ray:

Hey son! Over here! I'm over here. At the banyan trees.
Looks great! I'm sure it looks even better when you watch it, but the comparison is hella different (better)! Wish they had multiple more screens though, like a comparison shot of the entire commando elite from a scene. I hope this gets released in America on Blu-Ray sometime soon.

Hopefully this year it'll get an R1 release. It'd be great if they could produce a Special Edition for it but if they'd at least port over the DVD special features and give it a strong HD transfer I'll be pleased. Just want to finally own it in HD.
Possibilities for a good SE are definitely endless. I could see a new retrospective documentary with brand new cast and crew interviews and more production footage, individual featurettes on the Commandos and Gorgonites as well as the various Commando weapons and vehicles. The movie's gotten a considerable following since it's release, I'd say that warrants an SE.
Indeed, it does look much better. One problem I noticed is the Blu-ray image seems to be slightly cropped at the bottom. Not sure what the reason for that is.

The German Blu-ray. Looks like it has most of the special features from the DVD release and a new interview with Joe Dante called Toys In Hell. Really would like to see it, can't find it on YouTube. Perhaps someone who owns this can rip it from the Blu-ray and upload it?
Hope we get this here in the U.S. eventually. Want this on Blu-ray so bad. All these features along with any new ones. I'd love to see a retrospective with new cast and crew interviews as well as individual featurettes on the Commandos and Gorgonites.
