Sean Bean's character should have explained that his plan involved positioning snipers above the road, so that they were shooting down, not at each other. Sam was thinking in 2D.

shareYeah, he could've talked himself out of it I suppose. He could've said, "This is just a rough sketch, they're not directly across from each other you idiot!"
shareAnd even if it was 2D, it doesn't matter where the snipers are positioned, they will always end up shooting at each other at any point the target bisects them. Sam is very dumb, but the movie thinks he's very smart, which affirms the movie is very dumb.
