Kyles dad seeing how he made the news and saying something akin to Light "bring it on" sorta like the rivalry he had with L from the comfort of his own room and computer in secrecy. The shadow made me think of Ryuk.
LOL I was thinking the same thing. Plus Gerald typing feverishly on the computer reminded me of Light writing in the book.

You're right that it may have just been a coincidence, but Trey Parker and Matt Stone have shown in the past that they understand anime, at least enough to satirize it, so it's not unimaginable that they deliberately referenced a fairly popular anime.
shareIt's perfectly imaginable that they might reference something like Death Note, but if they were going to do it, there's no way it would be so subtle.
