I think they missed a better point on "Trolling"

That is when "Trolls" just have an opinion that is not the norm, as on IMDB or other message boards. There is a group-think and anyone who does not agree is a "Troll".

reply

No, that's just a different or controversial opinion that the majority do not agree with. A true troll is someone who deliberately goes around saying malicious things for the sole purpose of stirring up trouble and getting a rouse out of people.

reply

Exactly. The whole group-think that someone is a troll when their opinion is in the minority is a complete falsehood brought on by people who don't understand what a troll actually is.

Cracked.com is the worst offender. Anyone who is critical of one of their crappy articles is banned.

reply

No. It's brought on when the bearers of minority viewpoints are attacked as 'trolls'.

I know, and I think that would have made for a more compelling arc of episodes than focusing on a "true troll". For instance, having all the kids at school love a "Fear the Zombie Dead" type show, and then have one kid say "That show is stupid" and become a social pariah for saying it. But seeing Gerald as the horrible troll has been fun also. I guess it's two really separate story ideas but I would enjoy seeing it.

Edit: Better yet, have the entire town going crazy with love over a new Terrance & Phillip movie, most brilliant film of all time, epic, etc....but finally having one character simply saying "This is just fart jokes over and over and not really very good". Then show the fallout that happens to the character. Eventually the character gets so fed up with being called a troll, that they start insulting T&P just to annoy the others, so actually turning into a true troll.

People who go against the group-think of a message board are often accused of being trolls though.
