Prequel Flaws

As a "Star Wars" fan, I enjoy all of the movies, despite the deficiencies that they all have. These three movies have received a lot of flack over the years, and deservingly so in many cases. So, I was curious, what would you say is the most glaring flaw that ruins these movies for you--too much CGI, bad acting, bad directing, having Hayden as Aniken/Darth Vader, poor chemistry between he and Natalie Portman or having politics weigh too heavily on the storylines?

Bad writing - these are built on shaky foundations.

If you want something more specific, I'd say that the plot structures don't work. The first movie spends half its run-time introducing the main character of the prequels, and then he's barely used as a character for the rest of the film. The Phantom Menace almost sets Qui-Gon up as the protagonist, but kills him. It's kinda Obi-Wan, but not really. This renders the first third of a character's journey storyling almost irrelevant, something which could have been covered in a title crawl and two scenes.

This continues throughout the prequels: it's a character study and the character is underwritten. It all comes back to the writing. Natalie Portman, Ewan McGregor, and (so I'm told) Hayden Christensen are fine actors, but they're given dreck to work with.

Think of the waste that is Christopher Lee and Samuel L. Jackson in these films. Appalling.

How about the fact that Leia is supposed to remember her real Mother?
