Is It Impossible To "Remake" This Due To Digital Footage?

I don't mean remake in the traditional scene. I mean that they already have the actors' performances but there is terrible stuff in this like Jar Jar and the Windows '98 background battlefield.

So I was thinking, given the blue / green screen footage must still exist before the CGI was added, couldn't they theoretically replace Jar Jar with a superior creature and less problematic voice and replace all the now terribly dated CGI.

I'm sure that even George would approve of that last part as the technology just didn't exist to make his true vision back in '99.

But I don't know if the footage would even be good enough to remake these films? I'm not sure if it was this one or AOTC but one of them - as far as I recall - was shot with whatever digital resolution was available at the time, so would now look really poor.

You mean Windows XP :)

Haha, yeah that's it - Windows XP!

The change made to The Phantom Menace when George Lucas replaced the puppet Yoda with a digital one I actually agree with it. It makes sense to match with Episodes 2 & 3.

reply

That's true. Actually that's another aspect of TPM which was so shockingly terrible to people who saw it in cinemas at the time - That Yoda puppet was scary! 😂

reply

Yeah it was bad and the only bit of revisionism I agree with from George Lucas.

reply

Did he leave the original puppet in ESB or did he remove that as well?

That was the weird thing - the original (ESB) puppet was fine but the TPM one was terrible!

The original Yoda Puppets in Empire and Return of the Jedi remain unchanged as they should. It's perfect for the time it was made and fits as Yoda was an aged Jedi.

If George Lucas still owned the movies, he probably would be interested in making special editions of the prequels. But since he sold them to Disney is not up to him any more, and Disney’s more interested in making crappy shows on their streaming service.

reply

Please wait till we see season 2 of Obi Wan before rushing to judgement about shows on their streaming service. Hopefully we see even more Obi Wan and Vader confrontations

If this were remade, they would have to fix the crappy acting, crappy dialog and crappy storyline before worrying about the crappy CGI.
