Can't put a finger on it...

I don't know if it's the fact that I got older (first MiB came out in '97, when I was in 5th grade. It was epic. Watched it again this weekend, still epic.), or the fact that writing good sequels is hard, but for some reason this movie just "didn't have it". I didn't have the same feeling as I did when I saw the first one, and felt that some of the jokes/one-liners/action/and effects were too forced.

I'm not sure if that's it, but for some reason this movie didn't have the same magic as the first one. Does anyone else agree, and what was in the first MiB that's missing in this one?

Guess that's a good way to put it, and I think the CGI was a little outdated (not sure though).

Anyone else have an idea?

ALL i know is that, MIB was good enough seeing it at a young age (lately i just cant watch it, but i dont hate it or anything).
the 1st time seeing MIIB though, i absolutely HATED IT, and actually made me not even like the 1st one as much anymore. it made me just say "i grew up i guess..". cause it was NEVER funny and NEVER even interesting or enjoyable.

Seriously, it just wasnt good...at all.
I remember meeting Rip Torn before (and Biz Markie recently), and i was so tempted to say "what made you do MIIB??? i would have understood if you walked away from that one" lol.

MIIB i just ALWAYS turn away from, yet its on one of the dumb tv-channels ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLL the time. WHY? i think people are pretty sick of that taking up time and canceling the chance of an actual "MOVIE".

MIIB was only made to make tons of money, and not really for entertaining audiences. just had loads of advertising, and also they knew people would rush out to see it since it was years since the original.

hearing about MIIIB (MIB 3) i was worried, especially since they added (1 of my FAV actors ever) JOSH BROLIN. but if anything Brolin would make it watchable (plus since Jonah Hex really didnt work well for him, i wont have to worry as much).
MIB3 atleast seems more interesting (with time travel), and having Brolin in the cast AND....in 3D (which honestly im getting sick of everything being converted into 3D), but since they are MAKING IT in 3D without converting...im sure i will go check it out.

but seriously, you dont have to put your finger on anything to figure out why this movie sucked...it simply just SUCKED bad.
I mean this is as bad as Trash of the Titans (and thats saying A LOT).
This is seriously one of my most HATED movies of all time.

and i never "troll" on message boards, but i was looking at MIB 3, and for some reason clicked MIB 2, so i was curious about the Board, wondering if i was the ONLY 1 who hated it...from the looks of it, seems like almost everyone was pretty let-down by this one.

MIIB is so bad, that it made me wish they never thought of making a sequel in the 1st place, if it was left as MIB, it woulda been a "classic" (sort of, but wasnt THAT good).
and the sad part is, even if i absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE MIB 3....it will still never be a good trilogy :(
it will go: 1) pretty good (since i was young)...2) WTF is this POS "movie" why did i even watch that? ..to....3) damn that was good, wish i could have said MIB is a good trilogy though...guess i cant.

totally agree with the OP, it felt like a different director/writer took over for the 2nd film.

My jump the shark moment was when they had Zed fight Serleena. That was beyond corny and stupid.

richiro_33 - That's what sealed the deal for me. If you notice also right when Kay gets his memory back (they cut it real quick) but he does a lame jump kick too. We just had it on last night (cable).

I liked Smith's one liners, I know he is pretty much the same though out most of his movies but still think he's a funny guy.

We all know too much special effects can over saturate a movie or even ruin it (Star wars 1-3 trilogy with the CGI rooms..not just backdrop or alien looking world sections but inside structures.. argh!) but bad CGI can screw it up too.

Maybe MIB just didn't use a lot, but I thought Edger/Cockroach at the end still looks really good. All the aliens in 2 imo look lame, especially Knoxville's second head.

The quality almost mimicked what they used for the cheesy MIB documentaries in the movie :)
