the timeline of the original Fox series

Buckle up and bear with me.

Watching Deadpool & Wolverine tonight got me pondering this. And to be clear, just looking for good-natured debate. I don't think that there's necessarily a right or wrong here, more of a "right for me" and "right for you" kind of thing.

For sake of clarity, let's remember that there are 13 films in the original Fox X-Men movie series. In order of release, they are:

X-Men
X-2: X-Men United
X-Men III: The Last Stand
X-Men Origins: Wolverine
X-Men: First Class
The Wolverine
X-Men: Days of Future Past
Deadpool
X-Men: Apocalypse
Logan
Deadpool 2
X-Men: Dark Phoenix
The New Mutants

But, I was thinking, if you decided you wanted to watch them in chronological/story order, what would you consider that to be? It's a particularly interesting Gordian Knot, because it's not as simple as the order of years. Though some are meant to feel contemporary for their time of release, they don't always outright state years and are sometimes in the vague, not-too-distant future. And, some of them sort of branch off into their own continuities, and seem to contradict each other if you give them enough thought. Except for a few more mainline entries, they weren't overly concerned with continuity, just letting each movie do their thing. Plus, Days of Future Past exists in two timelines and one is actively trying to erase and replace the other. Mental gymnastics.

My order:

Origins Wolverine
First Class
Days of Future Past
Apocalypse
Dark Phoenix
X-Men
X2
X3
The Wolverine
Days of Future Past (again)
Deadpool
Deadpool 2
Logan
New Mutants

Also a fun question for other franchises

I don’t have a suggestion but it’s kind of cool that you arranged them in chronological order, and I now want to watch them in that order myself!

Nice job.
