Anyone here read the original novel 'Vampire$'?

I absolutely love this film as a standalone film but I'd really love to see the original novel faithfully adapted like as a two or three part mini-series. Hell, if they can do a 10-episode reimagine of "From Dusk Till Dawn", how sweet would it be to get a 10 episode completely faithful adaptation of John Steakley's "Vampire$"?

A bit late but total agreement. Enjoy the movie and love the book. Felix and Annabelle deserved to be in this film.

Read the book a year or two after seeing the movie. Had some good stuff, but didn't care much for it. I thought the film was better.

Originally, though, the film was going to be much closer to the book. However, at the last minute, the studio cut Carpenter's budget by nearly half (which they always tended to do with him, it seems), forcing him to scramble to rewrite the script in order to cut stuff out and scale it down to fit the new budget.

agreed. it is a magnificently fun movie, but there is so much from the novel that was cut out or changed, that only the barest bones of the original story seem to remain...
i'd love to see a more faithful adaptation, but that seems unlikely at this point.

I never read it, but read somewhere it's not very much like the book at all.

Kevin Durand as Jack Crow would be amazing.
