I actually enjoyed this.

I really enjoyed this film. I'm not saying that it was the best movie ever (it wasn't) or that everything about the film is perfect, but, for me, it was an enjoyable way to spend a couple of hour's.

And now, a bit of self promotion. My blog: http://dawnspartoftheworld.blogspot.com

James woods is one badass vampire slayer

So did I. I think it's one of carpenter's better movies. He was at his peak in the 70s and 80s, but this is his one later movie that was worth a damn imo.

I liked it a lot more than I thought I would.

Pacing is perfect.

Woods carries the film, and Daniel Baldwin was outstanding.

Great cinematography with that right look.

Were there any plans for VAMPIRES II? It would need a new plot element.

They did a direct-to-dvd sequel called "Vampires: Los Muertos" with John Bon Jovi. Never saw it so I have no idea if it was any good.

I'm prejudging, but it sounds forgettable, or we would have heard more about it.

Not sure which direction the story would take. Would have to be more than 'more of the same' to stand on its own.

Wouldn't it need Baldwin And Lee's characters, so we'd know of their fate?

And a new plot element.

Notice the reference to Bava's PLANET OF THE VAMPIRES, when they rise up from the ground?

When Baldwin is bitten, and puts the fire to his wound, I recalled BRIDES OF DRACULA, and when Woods hits the support beam, and the sunlight hits the vampire, the ending of HORROR OF DRACULA comes to mind.
