How exactly did Montoya turn when none of Katrina's blood mixed with his?

You can get bit and drained dry from a vampire but in order to become one, you would have to ingest a bit of the vampire's blood.

Good thread, I was wondering this myself. Maybe she ingested some blood somehow through the bite? (Cut lip or whatever, I know it's sort of unlikely.)

The bite, bro! Having to drink the vampire's blood is kind of the old school way to do it. Modern cinema, post Romero, generally just play it as the saliva from being bitten as infectious, a la dusk till dawn, blade, etc.
Modern cinema plays vampirism more as a symbol for direct contact pathogens as infectious disease than a lapse in sexual judgement.
