The Cardinal turning at the end

He told Jack the reason about fear of growing old and no afterlife. It still seems like a real stretch for a Cardinal to be questioning the existence of God. If he had just revealed himself to have always been a vindictive a-hole who used his position for criminal behavior than okay. He was going to hell anyways so why not sell your soul before you get there.

Just rewatched it, and had a similar issue.
If vampires are legit, and if they were created by the church, doesn't that mean that the church is somehow legit? The fact that the cardinal believe in one part and not the other seems strange.

Completely agreed.

Think about this...

Yeah, the Priest betrays Jack because he is scared of there being no god and no after-life....so he sees this as his only ticket to immortality...something he fears doesn't exist...

...after being shown the existence of supernatural Vampires and being asked to participate in a supernatural ritual that only magic could explain.

This is why you don't let John Carpenter write a script...

...not to mention he relied on WAY TOO MANY cross fades to transition the scenes here. Just a s'hitty film

reply

Wouldn't say it was much of a stretch really, as the cardinal said he's never seen any miracles or visions so he's relying entirely on faith whether he gets heaven or hell...but he knows for certain Vampires are present and are for all intents and purposes immortal, especially if he is transformed post Valek transformation....

When you talk to God it’s called prayer...when God talks to you it’s called schizophrenia...

Look up the facts and history of the Catholic Church! They r all going to hell.

For me, the biggest problem with the cardinal's plan is Valek's end of the deal. Why would Valek EVER keep his word? Why not just get the cardinal to complete the ritual, then kill him? That's a lot of trust on the cardinal's end. And you know what macready said. Trust is a tough thing to come by these days.

You assume that Valek wants to kill everyone.

Valek wants the dominate the world. There would be no reason for him to destroy Alba after him agreeing to complete the ritual.

Plus the Cardinal is screwy.
