Opening scene ruined the movie for me....

When the gorilla baby runs off in the bushes and the Leopard (I think it was a leopard) went in after it, the two gorilla parents were just like, "welp, he's dead." It's your freaking kid, the male gorilla should have jumped in that bush and bit the leopards head off or die trying.

They should have handled this scene differently, it made me hate the two main gorrilla characters.

This was a questionable scene for me as well. Usually parents wouldn't hesitate to put themselves at risk in order to save their children.

Why would Kerchak risk himself going after Sabor when there was no chance to save the baby?

That's what I was thinking. To me, it sounded like flesh was being torn by the time they found their baby and saw what was happening.

Why did I write? Because I found life unsatisfactory.

That would be the equivalent of attempting to save your baby if a hyena already had it in their mouth. The baby gorilla was already caught by the leopardess so there was nothing the parents could have done to save him. All they would have accomplished was risking their own lives for their already dead child.

Also, keep in mind, these are gorillas. A very different way of thinking than humans have. i realize that they are personified for the movie, but in reality, it's every gorilla for itself, for the most part. A mother would protect her young, for the sake of carrying on her genes, mostly, but once the leopard already has it, there's really nothing that can be done. It would be better to keep yourself alive.

Also, as a point of interest, as far as I know, the father would have no idea which of the offspring are his. I don't know that theat applies to gorillas, necessarily, but it applies to chimps, so let's assume. The male gorillas will mate with any female who is in estrus at the time. Several males might mate with the same female in a close amount of time. That serves to protect the offspring. if none of the males know which one is carrying their all important genetics, they will be less likely to kill the offspring. Which is something else that is seen amongst primates. There isn't really a mother and father unit amongst primate species (still assuming from the chimps) There is a mother, and a kind of community pool of fathers.

In a gorilla pride, there is only one mature male. All the offspring are his, it's a harem system. Not how it's done in the movie, of course, though.

the leopard ate the baby BEFORE the gorillas being able to do anything. watch the movie again.

Trying to fight the leopard would incur its wrath. Kerchak had an entire tribe to look after.

It was incredibly sad, but very well done. I'm sure lots of kids cry when seeing it for the first time, it made me tear up while I was 17.

It's such a brief, but sad moment in a usually energetic, upbeat, yet dramatic song. But it works, because it's so poignant.
