The idiot fanboys have it in reverse
In reality it is the EVEN movies that suck and the ODD movies that are good. The only good even numbered movie was The Voyage Home, and the only odd movies that sucked were one and three.

So, 3 sucked and was good? OK.

Not appreciating The Motion Picture?
do you even Trek?
The night is dark and full of terrors

I've been a Trekkie since about 1990. I used to agree with everyone else about the even/odd thing, but lately I've changed my mind. The first and fifth movies are now my favorites, with the second and sixth coming at the bottom of the list. I even think Generations and Insurrection are more interesting than First Contact and Nemesis.
shareI think VI + VIII are the best.
Followed by VII + XI
- I
- II
- III + IX
- V + X
- IV
Or like this
Great: I, VI, VII, VIII, XI
Good: II, III, IX
OK: V, X
Bad: IV
I still find myself to like a great majority of the ST films and I don't really even consider myself a Trekker by any stretch of the imagination.
I - Bad
II - Good
III - Good
IV - Good
V - Bad
VI - Good
VII - Good
VIII - Good
IX - Bad
X - Good
XI - Good
So to me the pattern looks like 1 bad followed by 3 good ones. So that means the next TWO ST movies will be good before they have another crappy one.
Personally, I thought Insurrection was okay (better than TPM and TFF) but it just seemed hokey and I had no real connection to the story.
There is no even/odd curse. Only an idiot would believe that. All of the original cast movies are good, with exception to trek V that is highly flawed. But even it has some good aspects. Now TNG movies look great, but for me they are lesser efforts. Generations was a mess with the way they shoehorned Kirk in and didn't bother to explore interesting concepts due to their need to pointlessly pass a torch and get the two captains to go horseback riding together. At least that one still feels like TNG. After it, the rest all feel like caricatures of TNG, throwing continuity to the wind and feeling divorced from the source material. First Contact is a great action flick, but not a very good Star trek since it steals the plot of ALIENS and doesn't care if it matches up to things we already knew. Insurrection has a decent story, but feels cheap and doesn't have any interesting villains. And then there is Nemesis, which ripped off Star Trek II among other things that I won't waste time going over now. at least the original cast films felt like natural extensions of the TV show characters upon which it was based. TNG felt like it was all a Nexus fantasy of distorted reality experienced by a Picard who never left the Nexus at all...

Whose idea was it for the word "Lisp" to have an "S" in it?
In reality my foot. It's all opinion, and most people don't like every single even movie and hate every single odd movie and vice versa. A lot of people who followed the "even is good, odd is bad" philosophy ended up hating Nemesis and loving the reboot.
Anyway, I like all of the original series movies to some degree (though the comedy of 5 is grating at times) while I only really enjoy First Contact of the TNG movies and didn't much care for Abrams's Star Trek.
I'll never understand why some people wish failure on movies.
OP: You're a moron.
Capitalization and punctuation: They're not just suggestions.
For the combination of your post and your signature, you;ve been nominated for Biggest Douche in the Universe. Congrats.
"Oh no...they sent the wrong Spock!"
TMP- good
TWOK- good
TSFS- good
TVH- good
TFF- bad
TUC- good
GEN- good
FC- good
INS- bad
NEM- bad
09- good
ID- good
I don't really subscribe to the 'odd/even' curse. There's only a handful of films in the series I would say are actually bad.
I rank them in tiers like this:
Original series movies:
6
2/4 tie
5/1 tie
3
Next gen movies:
First Contact
Insurrection
Generations
Nemesis
Abrams:
Tied. They're both equally good.

Aren't you relieved to know you're not a golem?
