Blu-ray version was so amazing

This is was such an amazing Blu-ray! I have a 6-channel tricked out sound-system, and this was the best soundtrack and Phaser blasts I've ever heard. There is a scene where a Sona shoots from the back, and it freaked out my wife, she totally looked behind her! The love this storyline as well. I could see this movie 100times, and never get tired of it. I would rate it as having the best soundtrack.

Agreed the Blu-ray version is amazing also like you say when connected to a great sound system there is nothing better than hearing the amazing soundtrack to this film.

...but yet some of the visual effects are lackluster. The scene with the drones is outright embarrassing. The CGI looked bad, even by 1998 standards.

They never did shell out the cash for TNG movies like they did for the TOS ones when it had to do with CGI.

Ummm, that is because CGI was not available in the form of major movie effects for the old cast movies. Big CGI didn't really come into play until Jurassic Park, which came after Star Trek VI. Before that, CGI morphing was about as far as they'd come, thanks to advancements made by ILM for films like Willow and The Abyss. Terminator 2 was cutting edge CGI for the morphing T-1000, and it was out the same year as Trek VI and with a much larger budget. The Genesis Effect was pushing the boundaries of CGI technology when ILM made it for Trek II back in the day, setting the stage for visuals like the Stained-Glass Knight in Young Sherlock Holmes. The CGI morphing globules of floating blood seen in Trek VI as well as the morphing Martia was utilizing the current standards from ILM for the time while T2 was the one pushing the boundaries beyond simple morphing which had become common place and could even be seen in commercials on TV. CGI was still only used to enhance practical effects in Generations and First Contact, with First Contact's only fully CGI scene being the launching of the escape pods. They rushed too soon into full CGI effects with Insurrection, making it worse by using a company that wasn't as good as ILM was. The effects looked unimpressive even when the film was brand new. Nemesis, on the other hand, did well with its full CGI effects.

Whose idea was it for the word "Lisp" to have an "S" in it?

Whatever else one can say about Insurrection, I thought the cinematography was excellent. The Ba'ku planet/village looks absolutely beautiful. Particularly in HD.

The F/X haven't aged particularly well, but the movie is 20 years old.
