I bet if they had good lawyers they could have taken over the land "legally". Seriously though, 600 immortal people who aren't natives have what specific right to not be removed from Star Fleet property?

Also, how long has Star Fleet been "studying" these people and they were still ignorant of their history?

And the other skin stretchers were there in the research team so why didn't they just secretly murder the colony and then do whatever they wanted with the planet? Lots of work to move people from one planet to the next.

Also, are you serious with that last question? Don't you think Starfleet would grow a little suspicious if the colonists started dying off?

What "Star Fleet property"? The Ba'ku landed on and colonised the planet decades before the Federation even existed.
