the cops came to get the news crew out of there, they were in a dangerous place with hurricane type winds battering the road up there. i think their is a shot when a big wave takes out a van.
This ending was so obvious, even in the trailer you knew it was Sinise. They need to better their trailers next time. Like in Mission Impossible, they showed flashes of almost the whole movie and still people didn't get it. That's where the good writing comes in.
But what EXACTLY happened at the end? the whole scene seems so messed up.
Cage realizes that Sinise is following him. He doesn't turn around for some time then all of a sudden he does turn around and tells Sinise he won't go away. Cage sees *something* in the TV (how he connects the events on the telly with the cops crashing through the window and saving everyone is beyond me) and agrees to clear the way. Cut to the girl as she tries to get out, while once again Sinise shouts that he doesn't want to kill Cage, but that he will if he must (this after Cage already said he would not block the door anymore). And then it really gets weird. A wave crashes through the door and takes a police car with it. The cops (nobody knows why they even came) immediately recognize Sinise - who is wearing a uniform - as the bad guy and point their guns at him... cops... at a member of the airforce...
how stupid is that??
"We learned more from a three minute record than we ever learned in school"
The cops came to get the news crew out of the way, they must have been watching the news or gotten a tip that reporters where outside in the weather and came to get them out of a dangerous area (this is logical since i myself have faced hurracaines the cops watch the coastal areas like hawks to get any moron out of harms way)
Cage sees the tv feed and knows that the reporters are out there outside the garage, he goes in to try to get their attention and the cops who he hears as well as sees due to the live tv feed.
I dont care if the guy had a naval uniform he has a gun, they would make anyone with a gun to disarm to get a handle on a situation.
The ending was a little strange, but it wasn't completely illogical. I thought the cops were just there to clear away the giant steel ball that said Millenium because it was dangerous. I don't know why the cops would come to make the news crew leave. I guess it doesn't matter either way, they showed up. I didn't even put together that Nicolas Cage knew the cops and the media were outside. I thought the end was just a big coincidence, that they happened to open the door just as all that stuff was going on outside. Again, either way, it doesn't really matter.

So the ending makes sense to me."
See! Hypno-2 got it right! the reason cops pull a gun on sinise is because yes, he has a gun, but more Illegally, he has a silencer!! and any cop knows that they are illegal.
I didnt think the ending was Illogical, but I do agree that it was an extremly weak ending, comparing it to the rest of the film/script. I also think that because we knew who the bad guy was early on, it gave the overall suspense away pretty quickly. but it was still good.)
I dont understand how the girl couldnt open any door all the time and nickolas cage could open the door in seconds.. did the shot from sinise open the door, what the hell was with the wave disbalancing the police van and the two people falling under it and all that.. it was very quick and confusing as if the director ran out of time or something..
The whole place was swarming with cops. When they found out about the assassination. Othee police came and there was really no reason to have additional police hurry to get there. They'd already had plent of police on scene there
