only one thing I don't understand [SPOILERS]

WARNING SPOILERS!!!

near the end, after Dunn had Tyler beat Rick up to get information, why did Rick walk to the girl? It's the one thing that bugs me about this movie. I've always LOVED watching it (I really like Brian De Palma's movies and Nicholas Cage is fantastic, everyone in it is fantastic), but I've never understood why Rick would risk going to the girl. Doesn't he know Dunn might follow him? It seemed like a coincidence to me that the police van showed up when it did.

The only possible explanation I can come up with is that after Rick left the girl alone he called some cop buddies and told them to come get her, but if that's the case he still wouldn't have to risk showing Dunn where she was hidden.

It bothers me too, however we could be looking at it the wrong way. Maybe he wasnt going to her, maybe Rick was actually going to that location as a safe place for himself - he may have been thinking that he would die in the next round of torture.

I never really thought about this. I do agree with the OP. I think Rick would have been smarter than to walk to the girl. If anything, at that point, he should have tried to find help.

Then again, with all the banging/kicking/screaming she was doing in that room, it's a wonder nobody heard/found her, anyway... That's what always bugged me.

"Hey, this guy's trying to keep me safe... Let me make as much noise as possible so that the bad guys can tell where I've gone!"

Might be God's will, but it's my willy.

I just watched it and I'm pretty sure Dunne called the cops intending for them to snag Santoro but got caught up in his own trap.

all possible but I think it was meant as it happened. He was going to rescue the girl then he saw the shadow on the wall. No Extras on my DVD as I would have liked to have seen them setting up that opening shot.
