This movie is not unlike many other recent Hollywood (USA) movies made about community perceptions.
Other movies include Steve Martin's "L.A. Story" (1991), Woody Allen's "Celebrity" (1998), Mary Harron's "American Psycho" (2000), Stephen Gaghan's "Syriana" (2005), and Ben Affleck's "The Town" (2010).
"Pleasantville" (1998) invites us to ask what makes a place black-and-white and what makes a place neon.
These days everyone walks around with a mobile phone with a built-in mini-camera and durable sneakers are the fad. Pedestrianism culture (i.e., Facebook) arising from consumerism culture (i.e., eTrade) makes on-the-go philosophy chic.
This is the sort of Blu-ray purchase or Netflix rental that reminds me why pedestrianism-prayer American comic book avatars such as Green Arrow (DC Comics), a Robin Hood-esque urban super-archer, are so marketable.
