Cool Action Movie, But Riddled With Too Many Plot Holes and Dumb Moments
I liked this movie because of all its cool action sequences, and the whole purpose of making Tom Cruise slick and finesse. But that is where the good part stops.
Spend some time analyzing the film, and you'll realize the rest of the movie is just full of dumb plot points and silly moments.
First, the movie introduces Dr. Nekhorvich and Dr. Gradsky, a pair of molecular biologists, who in their quest to seek out a 'Hero', has created what every hero requires, a 'villain', so they created the Chimera virus and then the Bellerophon antivirus to cure Chimera.
Makes a lot of sense? No it doesn't. In the movie, Bellerophon serves no purpose other than being a cure for Chimera, nothing else. McCloy had no use of Bellerophon, unless he had a population infected with Chimera. Seemingly, he cant have a population infected with the common cold or whatever to use Bellerophon.
Then what was the point of wanting to find this 'Hero' in the first place? DUMB !!
Second, in order to understand the effects of the Chimera virus, McCloy 'deliberately infected' Gradsky with the virus. Are you telling me that they couldn't just inject the virus into any lab rat to analyze the deadly effects of the disease?
As the co-creator of the Chimera virus, what kind of a genius is Dr. Gradsky for allowing himself to be infected with Chimera, knowing it would mean certain death for him, and not having any Bellerophon at his side ?!
My goodness, any genius who could create such a deadly strain of flu and not know it would kill you almost instantly without a cure standing by does deserve to die a horrible death.
Oh, McCloy didn't know Gradsky needed Bellerophon within 20 hours, because he DIDNT ASK Nekhorvich. Isn't he Nekhorvich's boss? Whats so hard about asking him?! Whats so hard about getting test results from the lab?!
He purposely infects his best scientist, kept it from secret from the other, than later shrugs it off because he doesn't know it would kill him?!
Jesus !! What are these people ?! And they run a pharmaceutical company ?! Who would dare to purchase medicine from these psychos ?!
Third, if you are infected with Chimera virus for more than 20 hours, you are dead and not even Bellerophon can save you.
But how does one even know that they are infected with Chimera? As seen in Dr Gradsky and Nyah's case, one does not show symptoms of Chimera infection only AFTER 20 hours is up !! Before that, there doesn't appear to be any signs you are infected at all. Hell, even those around the infected ones don't need to wear any kind of protective gear!!
Yet, by the time you show any signs of infection, it is ALREADY TOO LATE !! The entire human race will be dead before they even need to find a cure !! Making the existence of Bellerophon utterly redundant !!! DUHH !!!!
I know they want to imply Chimera being a fatal disease with this 20 hour thing and all, but the plot just contradicts itself from the start. That's downright stupid !!
Fourth, what is the history with Sean Ambrose, Anthony Hopkins and Ethan? Was he an ex IMF agent? Anthony Hopkins says he uses Ambrose a couple of times to impersonate Ethan when he couldn't find him. And it would appear that Ethan and Ambrose has some sort of history together. Ambrose seems to know Ethan's modus operandi very well. But the film does little to explain any of this.
If Sean was an IMF agent, then why did he turn heel? Has he been disavowed by the IMF?
Why did the IMF not have him arrested ?! Considering they know he is now a terrorist and that he was responsible for the deaths of a whole planeload of people !! He is just allowed to roam freely and go on with this underground deals that potentially threatens the entire world ?! Motherfarking Christ !!
Oh, may I add that IMF will disavow all knowledge of this if the world population dies as a result of Chimera infection.
*IMF waving its middle finger*, "Fark you, its not my problem."
Fifth, how did Ethan Hunt manage to STAMP a mask of himself on this crony whose name nobody bothered to remember? Oh yes, hes called STAMP too !! STAMP GOT STAMPED !! Does that rhyme or what?
Ethan also conveniently had a mask of Stamp and voice altering sticker containing Stamp's voice too !! What, does he carry a pack of ready-to-use masks and voice stickers everywhere?
As we can see in the other Mission Impossible movies, they needed a computer, a head model, and a sculpting machine in order to create a mask of the likeness of the person. Not to mention requiring the voice imprint of the person to create the voice stickers. And yet, Ethan was able to create all these out of nowhere !!
Was the Neo Print Masks vending machine just sitting nearby in the underground tunnel?
Batman certainly can take a lesson or two from Ethan Hunt.
Sixth, we see that Ethan's motorcycle was actually leaking gas the whole time !! Yet having a ton of guns shooting at you, a jeep bumping behind you and riding the damn thing into an explosion, it doesn't blow in his face !! He can perform all these cliché action sequences on it, yet as he jumps off the bike, it blows the hell up !!
Ethan Hunt must have been wearing Ready-To-Use, Explosion Stalling Underwear that day.
Seventh, how and why did a gun magically appear under the sand, directly below Ethan's feet just as Ambrose was supposed to shoot him?
The gun just sprouted out of nowhere at the exact moment Ambrose was about to pull the trigger?
Is it plain luck, mere coincidence, divine intervention or just downright *beep* ??
Lastly, what is this movie's idea of having so many undertones? There is a strong Spanish ambience in the firm, and then having some unknown festival burning saints, yet the film takes place in Sydney Australia? What the hell?
Its like the movie cannot make up its mind on its own identity !!
So what do you think of this movie ? The Best in the MI series ?
Award winning material ??
Is there any MI fanboys who will wanna rebuke me ? Bring it on PAL !!
