I can't believe they used a real knife on a wire that stopped centimetres away from Cruis's eye. If something had gone wrong, if the wire had slipped or anything Cruis would be without an eye! Obviously they got away with it, but I think that was just foolish.
I agree. Tom Cruise has always been OK with doing insane things that would even make professional stuntmen flinch. The plane sequence in the upcoming M:I film? He actually did that too.
They could have just as easily used a prop for the knife stunt and it would have looked just as believable. If I were a director I would never let an actor do something this risky with a real blade, especially a star like Tom Cruise.
I agree, they could have done it a million other ways that would have been far safer.
For example use a reverse shot, use a cgi blade, use a camera technique so that the knife isn't actually anywhere near his face let alone his eye.

He's got a very well known reputation in Hollywood for stamping his feet until he gets his way. Being that he's got the talent and the money to do it, why not? He even fired his original insurance company on Ghost Protocol because they refused to let him actually scale the Burj.

I do applaud Cruise for being the guy that does the actual stunts... what a beast. Like an absolutely INSANE Jackie Chan, lol.
