Who am I going for?
It's hard to decide who the good guys are. In real life, I'd rather have that kid killed to save lives than to have him running around.

shareethically the kid deserve to live,
shareBetter idea: hire someone from outside of Hollywood to write cryptographic code for the government.
Given the budget allotted to these films, you'd think that they'd bother to consult with someone who about the plausibility of the story. Their cryptographic algorithm (Mercury?) did not encrypt data; it obfuscated it. The message was just "embedded" in a pattern and could be easily decoded by anyone.

I'd have had Alec Baldwin's character killed for spending 2 Billion Dollars on a code that can be cracked by a 9 year old kid.
