shareI have some close friends and family members who have various levels of Autism. Although I don't think this is a very good film, I think the way they depicted Autism was very believable, and sympathetic. The actor that played Simon was extremely good in his portrayal of an Autistic savant.

I work in this field and have a close relative with a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder, and I usually shy away from Hollywood depictions of folks with ASD because too often they are portrayed as one-dimensional stereotypes.
There are many shades along the ASD continuum and, just like anyone else, a person diagnosed with an ASD has his/her own individual personality and character traits, strengths and deficits.
However, I found the portrayal of Simon with his particular form of ASD quite good.

I was always called "uncooperative" when I was growing up, but I found out by myself later on that I qualify in all categories for Asperger's. I'm 24.
I think though that I was better off without that label holding me back, though. It took me a lot of trials and errors but now most of my old habits are completely gone and noone can tell that I was an odd child. 'Cept my husband. :-D
