Russian Mafia..its sounding more pathetic everytime i see it. leave the mafia bosses for the Italian-Americans. It sure makes the movie alot more better when the Mafia Boss is an Italian. Russian characters seem to be all Godfather & Italian copy-cats.
I totally agree..its obvious there trying to copy the grat mafia films like the godfather. Nothing will ever come close to the real mafia movies. all these russian ones are a total embarassment.
That's why people love the Italian mafia, because they're charasmatic and interesting. They're somehow more than just criminals. They care more about making money than exacting violence. It seems like the Russians and Triads enjoy the violence more than the Italian mafia, which is kind of a turn-off for viewers. Plus, the Italian mafia has the whole family aura around it which in a way shadows the fact that these are despicable criminals.
we've seen enough fat men named Tony or Paulie eating spaghetti and beating people in New York. we can try something else. I'm for the Triads, but Russians and Yakuza are also appealing.
and I'd like to see if these people are in any mafia, as they seem to know who copies who...
in real life, the italian mafia has NO POWER, Italians are pussies. The Russian Mafiya and the Triads are the most powerful criminal organizations in the world, the Russian mafiya owns 80% of ALL BUSINESSES in Russia, including banks. They have the whole government corrupted and control the country basically.
And internationally they have a big chunk of all illegal business.... fu ck the Italians, they were interesting 80 years ago, they hold no more weight
Exactly, that's their strongpoint, not just using perfectly legal fronts but also ensuring a strong political and economical position in whatever region they target. This way they're essentially washing over the American underground, and are possibly making a move into west Europe as well. 80% sounds like a gross exaggeration to my ears, but it's true that their current grip is very firm. In terms of brutality - Yes, they're ruthless and know no ethics, unlike the Italian mafia or the Jewish mafia, though their bright side is that they don't target the regular John Doe walking down the street - They'd rather avoid unnecessary attention and save their resources for the big, profitable moves.
Another interesting mafia to look into is the Polish one, small but on the rise, and notorious for their trademark bomb hits.
Do you have any information on the polish mafia i can read?? any links?
The 80% is truth... not that they own 80%, but they have their hand in 80% of all businesses. The reason why they own so much is because when communism fell everything was being privitized aka up for sale to whoever wanted it. And the Mafiya had the money to buy the majority of businesses
Sorry, I'm having a hard time finding online reference for the Polish mob. Some things I did find through a quick google session is that they seem to be as ruthless as the Russians, but more aggressive and less professional. One excerpt I found was that through a campaign of blitzes they took over the Russian turf in Chicago, though I can't at all verify this or even tell whether this was intended fictional or not. What I suggest is looking for some research material at your local library.
Trust me- wherever the hell you go - there's a mob there of some nationality. It's class warfare in action- with the counterculture sticking to the man by being the man.
The charismatic Italian-American mafia image is thanks to the movies, where as the reality was totally different. During the Cosa Nostra's prime days, they were less charismatic and more brutal...at least in Sicily. Toto Riina was in every way an anti-thesis of the "dapper don", John Gotti, and was known for his brutal execution methods. However, what sets the Russian mob apart from the Cosa Nostra of the heydays is its technically and efficiently ruthless MO. The technicality and efficiency of their operations stems from ex-KGB roots, which quite a significant number of them are. They have their tentacles lodged in Russian oil, drugs, prostitution, casinos, weapons trafficking, kidnapping, extortion and even mediate in transfers of Russian hockey players to the NHL. The post-Glasnost atmosphere has left these people with the wealth of destruction accumulated through the years of the iron curtain, and having easy access to this wealth have given them power over other cartels and organizations in the world. Truly, the Russian mob is to be very feared.
I completely agree with everything said. The Italian Mafia portrayed in movies is actually based more so on the early Jewish mob on the East Coast than any actual Italian one. The Triads, and the Russian mob are by far the strongest organized crime organizations in the world, followed by the yakuza, korean, israeli (almost all of the world's ectasy and diamonds controlled by them), and gentrified (mixed) mafia syndicates
