Terrific fight scenes!
The wild and crazy fight scenes in this movie make up for a whole life of boredom. Once again, American actors showing that they can do Hong Kong choreography is suburb! Though some of the people were doubled by stuntmen and stand-ins, everyone did get into the mix and threw a bad smackdown on the bad guys and at other times, on each other. Even Schneider throws a kick or two, dodges machete swipes to his head and Lela Rochon and Michael Wong break out the big guns and start blastin' like Chow Yun-Fat in a John Woo movie!
Van-Damme has some of the coolest combat scenes that require him to do something crazy every now and again. Like running on the side of a van to do a sharp turn with a rickshaw, sliding on slick surfaces while shooting bad guys on a boat, swinging a board cart around in the fruit store melee. I swear, the actors and the director Tsui Hark went all out for this movie.
While some people give it a D+, I give it an A for effort and an A+ for it's wild and crazy action sequences! Remember, in the world of Asian action, it's not always about winning awards...it's about making a movie and having some fun. Clearly, that's exactly what everyone did!
