I loved it
I always watch it when it is on. What a great film...I wish they went more into the background of whoever G was...
Aah 1998.....what a wonderful year, sigh

I just watch it. I took the opinion of others and the look of the film and did not want anything to do with it. For some reason I watched it today and I was amazed at how enjoyable it was. The problem with it is Eddie is not doing his trademark stick and Jeff is not doing Sci-fi. People fear change. But you are right it was really good.
shareSo happy to see comments like this.
It's one of my top 3 favorite Eddie Murphy films.

I think that not going into his background is by design. It is meant to mimic an entity who roots or beginnings are not known but yet who posesses a great wisdom
-3 people can keep a secret, if 2 of them are dead
I agree, it's a really funny movie. Greetings.
shareI think we are supposed to form our own opinion of who G is based on what we saw from the film, his wisdom, simple yet comforting words, his willingness to help Ricky, Robert Ricky if you will :D , the party scene with the Rolex and "be careful what you wish for", and then the ending scene where G tells Ricky "your good is better, your better is blessed"
IMHO G is God or some personification, he may also be some divine messenger or angel like in the film Michael (John Travolta), or Bagger Vance (Will Smith)
As much as I could go into the flaws of this film, I too really enjoyed it for what it was! Thought it would get a little higher than a 4.7.
