I swear I remember seeing a trailer a few months before this movie came out, it was a teaser for a disaster movie called "Flood". I heard a rumor that it was re-written, re-titled and re-shot in the wake of the floods in North Dakota that year. Was I hallucinating as I often do? Someone please verify this for me. It might have been better as a disaster movie, but not likely.

yeah, your right. I knew that the floods hitting some town did cause them to change the title. not sure how much it affect the script. Although disaster movies were En Vogue in the 90s.
I got a question, i remember LONG time ago that this was a John Woo flick,did he still have any Uncredited involvement in this?
God, i just saw this TODAY on UPN...hahaha...it was bad, but the action was fun.

The movie does have a lot of "John Woo" elements in it. My two favourites are the Mexican standoff (-also seen in Broken Arrow) that Tom and the guy who was in love with Karen (I Don't know his name) had during the scene in the church, and also Tom repeatedly uses two guns in the movie which is another dramatic favourite of Woo's- as seen in Face/Off.
But this does not mean anything, it could just be that the writer or the director was a Woo fan. Who knows???

I have just read in the Trivia section for Hard Rain, that John Woo was originally slated to direct, so perhaps these things are just kickbacks from that.

Wrong, It had nothing to do with the floods. I was working in the thatre buisness when it was released. All the original posters were recalled so of course I kept them. the script was not altered it was already in the can when they decided to change the title. The reason for the change was all the disaster movies that came out around that time, They didn't want people thinking that this was just another one. Since the flood is just the backdrop for the heist that is the main plot.
There were indeed reshoots and deleted scenes as I remember seeing daylight still photos of characters who ended up not being in the film at all.
shareThis movie was filmed close to where I live in southern Indiana. It was filmed in Huntingburg, Indiana which is where "A League of Their Own" was also filmed.
The original title was "The Flood" or atleast that's what they called it while they were filming it. I remember seemed to take a couple years for it to make it to theaters.
I'll never forget when they were filming it in Huntingburg. There is a street there (I think it's 4th Street) where there is nothing but really neat shops (I know Disinger Kruger Jewelers is there) and that's where most of the movie was shot. I remember they had the entire street blocked off to traffic. They had it sandbagged so they could "flood" it for the filming of the movie.
I remember going there as a teenager to try to meet Christian Slater but, I never did get to meet him.

The trailer only showed small, fast close-ups of the actors and then the name, which at the time was "The Flood". I remember watching the preview for another movie, and thought, "Hmm, a flood action flick with Christian Slater, Morgan Freeman, and what looks like Randy Quaid? Could be cool". It wasn't the greatest movie on the planet, but pretty original, with the some good gun fight scenes(particularly the cemetary and church). The director of this movie I have not seen credited anywhere else. He did a good job, but I would have wanted to see John Woo's take on it. From Hard Target to Paycheck, I have not doubted the man.
