Good Effects, VERY BAD SCRIPT

I actually remember seeing trailers for "the flood" during late 96' around the time Scream 1 came out, and was pretty impressed by the original trailer, but then the film never came out that summer, two years later some movie pops up with the title of Hard Rain with the same stuff from the flood trailer, i was totally confused then remembered that was the movie i was waiting for two years ago. The new trailer which gave more detail then the previous one felt horribly underwhelming and unexciting and pretty much made my expectations go way down for the film, not to mention they made us wait two years before its release. Once I saw the film i can understand why, the script was GOD AWFUL, terribal beyond words, characters doing the dumbest things and acting totally unhuman. The filmmakers did not even try to make them human, seems to me all thought went into the effects because no attention was paid to the script. The film is basically a pretty standard actioner with lots of water. 3 million is probably enough money to make people go crazy but i think they could have made a more credible reason for these characters to stick around during a dangerous flood. The filmmakers were totally irresponsible on this one and it is their fault the film tanked.

well if im not mistaken jackson, it is a FICTIONAL MOVIE. fictional means that it is not real. its the filmakers movie, they can do whatever they want in it, and they can make the characters act however they want to also. alot of people who leave comments on here never seem to understand that for some reason....

I do understand it's fiction but the situations in the film must at least be credible in movie world, or maybe they could have figured out a way to keep them trapped in the town unable to escape, just something somewhat intelligent, these characters are complete idiots.

Like most movies with underwater scenes, (Hard Rain, Casino Royale, Italian Job) the water is crystal clear like a swimming pool when it should be completely muddy and full of garbage. Murky water is what happens when you have a flood. Crystal clear water is a Hollywood cliché.

You can make the case for the water in Baywatch or Poseidon Adventure to be clear enough to see through, and the offshore underwater scenes in "The Guardian" can be as crystal clear as you want. But to have as part of the Hard Rain script that the flood water is so clear that the Slater character could accomplish what he accomplished streches suspension of disbelief a bit far.

Yes, I know this isn't a documentary. But if we're going to have absurdities like being able to see through flood water when it suits the plot, why not have other absurdities like letting the characters grow an outboard motor out of their butt when it suits the plot?

"Crystal clear water is a Hollywood cliché."

So you want the actors to work in muddy water just because clear water bugs you? You want them compromise their health for you? Is that it?
