Best line?

"But, you're the sheriff!"

"I'm the what?!"

Never saw the movie, but I love that line.

I've eaten sh*t for 20 years.
The next thing I eat will be sh*t-free.

Yes, truly a powerful line.

It reminds me, a bit, of Joseph Cotten's line in SHADOW OF A DOUBT.

Cotten's homicidal Uncle Charlie (not to be confused with Ed Asner's Uncle Charlie in HARD RAIN) delivers a ranting monologue about the "useless, fat, greedy women" who have inherited their deceased husbands' money, and they fritter it away on idol living and luxury.

Uncle Charlie's sister retorts, regarding the women, "They're human beings."

As the camera zooms in on his profile, Cotten's Uncle Charlie turns towards the camera, and with an icy stare he asks "Are they?"

The simple question, and the demented eyes, have nearly the same chilling impact on viewers as Randy Quaid's deranged, wild-eyed Sheriff saying "I'm the what?"

One of my fave:

Sheriff: For twenty years, I've been eatin' *beep* breakfast, lunch, and dinner. So now I'm changing the menu. From here on, everything I eat is gonna be *beep*

Prostitute: What the *beep* are you doing?
Johnny: I'm gonna kill a bunch of people.

When does he say "I'm the what?" I've seen this movie a bunch of times and I've never heard him say that. He throws his badge into the water and that's it.

That line is only in the trailer...
He doesn't say "I'm the what?" in the actual film.

I just finished rewatching it.

Richard Dysart telling Bettie White to "shut the *beep* up"

Hilarious!
