Why was a CGI mask used?

I don't really know the behind the scenes on this movie of why they had to use multiple masks...does anyone know why they did use more than one mask and why they used CGI in part of the movie?

They mention at length in the new making of Halloween H20 featurette on the Blu Ray from the box set. Bottom line, they could never get it right and it showed. Too many cooks in that kitchen. I think they used 2 different mask makers 1 for the original filming and 1 for re-shoots. The CGi was because the scene was so dark and oddly filmed the real mask didn't look right, then the CGI looked worse, but they were out of time when editing it for the 20th anniversary release date of August. Had they waited til Oct. it might have been salvaged, no way to know.

idk but that mask was AWFUL

They did not use a CGI mask. They used CGI to try to dirty up the mask to make it look more like the original.

Seems to me it would be a whole lot easier to just physically dirty up the mask to make it look more like the original.

I know a guy who does this with fri13th masks and sells them

They did, lol. During the director's commentary he said they dirtied it up more with CGI in post production during the editing process because they felt it still didn't look dirty enough. It did end up looking ridiculous in that scene in the kitchen. Especially on the older HD DVD. It almost sparkles πŸ˜‚

Nice! That would be perfect for Halloween. Jason's hockey mask never came across as scary to me but the Michael Myers mask did. I love that it was a William Shatner mask they mangled up a bit πŸ˜„
