Cult Classic?

Ever since that disappointing new Godzilla came out in 2014, it looks like fans of this movie are starting to pop up. I've always liked this movie myself. I agree its still not Godzilla but its still a fun enjoyable monster movie.

I hope this at least achieves a status of Cult Classic. The only criticism I can even give is the sorta less-than-convincing romance between Nick and Audrey, or maybe the fact that Audrey's character is supposed to be a nice girl, but the actress just keeps seeming far too rude and preppy. I liked what they tried to do with her, but I think her direction was a little off.

Other than that, I enjoy every second of this fantastic movie.

It was better than the 2014 movie.

The 2014 movie earned an average of B+ with general filmgoing audiences. Three out of every four critics liked the film, while it also went on to gross three times its production budget worldwide and be greenlit for a two sequels, a bonus King Kong film for the new monster cinematic universe, and a 2020 crossover with Kong.

The 1998 film got a children's cartoon and an ass-beating in Toho's revived Godzilla series.

The 1998 film also scored horribly among critics and general moviegoing audiences.

Just in case we need to quell any emthusiasm this film was starting to churn up over upset losers trying to delude anyone into thinking it's a "cult classic."

Too many people hate this movie. I don't see it ever attaining cult classic status.
