The choice for CGI future proofed this, and the CGI is pretty decent as well.

I was expecting a very dated movie for 1998.

Having a black president also gives it a more modern feel.

Tias hairstyle is a little too 90s but most others don't stand out as being 90s.

Agreed. I really enjoyed this movie. "Armageddon" was a total letdown.

Armageddon is very 90s stylised action, and the use of miniatures for the ship and asteroid stick out like a sore thumb. It has to be one of the last big movies to use miniatures.

Yes and it's easy to understand why miniatures weren't used again.
